Re: Grab the Popcorn!
I couldn't agree more Steve. It was so cool watching Dart zooming in on the asteroid and seeing the detail materialize as we watched. Now a bunch of new scientist take the torch in the next phase of the mission and measure if Dart actually changed Dimorphus's orbit.

Hey what a way to swat a fly long distance.I think I read they took something like 15 years of planning forever just one shot at it.In. any case it is a big plus in our protection from asteroirds. Jerry.

Here is one of the first images taken after DART successfully smashed into Didymos.

Re: Grab the Popcorn!
Thanks Paul. I am just amazed at all the skill technology that these people have. Are there any results of the test yet?? I am anxious to hear the rsults. Jerry

Re: Grab the Popcorn!
I learned yesterday according to news sources that that Dart experiment results were successful in deflecting the asteroid.Going by these results the potential deflection of a near earth asteroid collision is proven possible.I guess I won't have to sleep under my bed tonight!!( lol) Jerry

Re: Grab the Popcorn!
I really appreciated being able to watch this (nearly) live. And I got my youngest nephew (13) involved in watching it with me, who agreed it was very cool. I wanted him to have the thrill of that experience, even if not on the same level as my first retained memory of watching an astronomy event unfold in near real-time, the first moon landing!
