Comet and Globular Photo-Op

Unread post by Apollo XX »

This coming Friday evening, the 15th of July at 22:00ish P.M. the comet C/2017 K2 PanSTARRS will pass very closely to the globular cluster M10 in the constellation Ophiuchus (which is much easier to find than it is to pronounce). If it's clear it could present a nice opportunity for the visual observer and the astro imager alike. Depending on which data you think is exactly right, the comet will pass somewhere between .5° and 1° to the west (right) of the the cluster. M10 is a very nice globular with a size of 20' and a brightness of 6.6 magnitude.

I await the reports from the visual observers and the images from the astrophotographers!

Thanks for the heads-up, Mike.
I will certainly be out there if conditions are decent.
I'm thinking DSLR on 5" refractor for a color, somewhat-wide-field, view.

Hahaha Mike, ( Oh-fee-you-cuss), Unfortunately Ophiuchus is in a bad part of the sky for me here at my house and I have to work Friday night so no visual for me till Saturday night. I am holding high hopes for Saturday night, then I will be posting a visual report (fingers crossed).
