Invite to See the Sun in All Its Glory

Unread post by AstroGeek »

JUNE is finally here, and with that comes the best month for gazing at the sun. (insert legal disclaimer here) In celebration of Sol and COVID-liberation, I have decided to open up my backyard observatory in Bridgewater, MA to any ASSNE member who might be interested. For every sunshine-filled day, between 10am and 2pm, you are welcome to drop by and place your eyeball up to a special Hydrogen-alpha solar telescope. This will allow you to safely view sunspots, flares, granulation, prominences, filaments, faculae, and spicules all at once!! When ELSE will you have this opportunity? I will also place the sun's image onto a large computer screen where we can see these features LIVE and in greater detail. This invitation runs for EVERY SUNNY DAY in June. All I ask is that you send me a confirmation message ahead of the time that you'd like to visit. So stop by, have a coffee, learn some science, and join me in appreciating our life-giving star.

Steve,

Wanted to ask you last night what HA scope you were using but I forgot after watching your great moon images.

Hi Paul,

I have a Lunt 60mm solar telescope with the double-stack attachment to screw onto the front (highly recommended) of the OTA. The unit is extremely well-made and their website is marvelous. Customer support is tops, also. I never thought that observing the sun could be so fascinating.
Get your butt over here!!

I can vouch for the quality of the Lunt H-Alpha scopes. I have the same one Steve does. Much like traditional astro-imaging, the photographs produced and processed look alot nicer than what can be seen by direct viewing either through the eyepiece or on the computer screen but are still stunning nonetheless. I used this scope to capture my photo of last Thursdays partial eclipse.
