Me thinks he's holding back his secrets on losing the violet fringe.

Rightly so as it took him many hours to learn his magic. I can email you the 45 meg raw image if you want.

And dark or two? I hope you don't have dial up?

FWIW this salvaged image Steve "played" with was shot at ASA 400 through my 4" Antares 1056 (4" f/6.5 achromat) with an Antares f/6.3 focal reducer, and a Baader UV/IR cut filter. It was a single 104 sec. image & 1 dark I stacked, & then I tweaked in PS7, and passed through Neat freeware image software for the cleaned up resized jpg.

Thanks for bringing your uncompressed raw files to the meeting for me to work on. I always enjoy a good project. I took one of your M42 images into PhotoShop and worked on it for nearly two hours. Tried to tease out every bit of detail without corrupting the data. Worked to de-purplize some of the stars and clean up some of the background noize. What's left is an image that is quite beautiful, I think. Nice capture, Mark!! Just goes to show...snapping the picture is only *half* the battle. Hope you like the result.

Nice work Steve

I REALLY appreciate your taking the time to post process my image. It sure did come out nice. Sometime you will have to show me/us how you work your magic. While I do remember your "lesson" you showed as last year prior to an ASSNE meeting regarding curves, and levels that's about all I remember. But, I'm sure you've progressed even farther then what you showed us then.

I've a desk top image now.

I see the running man now very clearly too

Not bad for a 4" Antares refractor huh? At least after you work your magic with it.
