Sharpless 188 (Sh2-188) and my astrophotography website

Unread post by menardre »

I finally completed generating and uploading all of my images and write-ups for over 300 objects into my new website
menardastrophotography.com.... check it out.

Last week I imaged the nebula Sh2-188. It took me two nights since the first night clouded over earlier than expected.

Sharpless 188 is known as The Shrimp nebula. It is located in Cassiopeia so it is in a good position in the night sky for imaging. It is a planetary nebula, but it does not look like a classical planetary. It is about 850 light years away.

I was able to acquire 42 images (4 minutes, binned 1x1, -20C, gain 100) on Nov 10th, and then 106 images (4 minutes, binned 1x1, -20C, gain 100) on Nov 11th. Both nights used 11 inch SCT and ZWO ASI 2600 OSC with 0.7 focal reducer. SV90 and ZWO ASI290 used for autoguiding -- which was very good both nights (<.75 arcsec RMS).

Looks a lot like the Medusa Nebula.
And a neat galaxy at 4 o'clock.

Roger, your new web site is awesome! Each object displayed has a ton of info covering many aspects of the object, your process, etc. Thanks for sharing with us!
However, now, with the quality of your fine images, I am can't decide if I am "Educated and Inspired" to continue or If I should throw in the towel on imaging! :x It will be hard to equal your great work.
