Aquarius is just above my trees at this point in the year. I only have a few weeks to observe or image anything in Aquarius. While I have observed M72 several times, I have never gotten around to imaging it.... so last night I gave it a try.
I started imaging around 7:45PM (although the sky was to bright for the first few subs) and finished around 12:30AM. I was able to acquire 111 images of 2 minutes binned 1x1 temp -10C and gain 100. I used about 100 for processing. Celestron Edge 11 inch SCT and ZWO ASI2600 OSC used. I also took 50 flats (0.05 seconds).
Processing with Pixinsight was straight forward since you do not have to work hard to bring out retails.
Messier 72 is a globular cluster in Aquairius about 54,570 light years away. It is about 9.5 billion years old. It was discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1780, and 36 days later Charles Messier looked for it.
Hopefully, with the advent of cooler weather, there will be more chances for observing/imaging. This summer was dreadful.

Re: Messier 72 (M72) NGC 6981 Globular cluster
Very nice, Roger. May I be the first to tell you that it looks very much like M13.
If you are going to argue that point, you've looking at way too many globular clusters.
Seriously, another nice tight image.

Thanks
I was happy with how this globular cluster came out. It is also good when you can see ifdividual stars.
