Sharpcap Focusing tools

Unread post by Bruce D »

Sharpcap has a half dozen or so focusing tools has anyone tried them? Is one of them better than the rest? Or are they a waste of time?

Forget about focusing masks and all that. I've been using the SharpCap FWHM focus tool for several weeks now and it is absolutely positively dead nuts precision. Even when a star appears to be focused, there's a huge range of fine-focus that was never detectable without this tool.

Bruce

I cannot help you with SharpCap focusing....I use SGP which has an autofocus tool.

I tried SharpCap for the first time last night to do polar alignment. I have to say that I am impressed with SharpCap polar alignment tool.

I've never tried the SharpCap focusing aids. I use a Bahtinov mask.

I've used the Bahtinov mask and found the SharpCap FWHM focusing far more precise Tim. BUT I seem to recall that SharpCap has a Bahtinov mask focusing routine too. That I've not tried.

Thanks guys, Pete good to know, i was going to experiment with some homemade masks but not for lack of better things to doso now I don't have to bother.
Roger i agree, after a couple false starts (camera settings, and not being close enough to Polaris) i was able to get within a few arc seconds in short order.
