Jupiter-Saturn conjunction...clouds cleared in time

Unread post by menardre »

Clouds cleared around 4:30PM, just in time to see the 'great conjunction'. So I ran across the street and grabbed these photos.

The first one was early but I liked the composition with the foreground. Hard to spot the conjunction. The other were a bit later and you can clearly see the Jupiter-Saturn separation.

Nice pictures all, Roger. The parting of the clouds was miraculous. I managed to get one or two keepers myself.

My older brother Ed Nowak who lives in SC.took this with an I-phone through a 6" F9 Dob that I built using a mirror my Dad (also Ed) made back in the 1950's. Brother Ed is no astronomer or imager and I was amazed that he got this. The Dob design was not yet invented back when Pop did the mirror and he just did not have the funds (firefighter and construction worker feeding five kids!) to acquire a suitable mount. I found the mirror when he passed a number of years ago and built a Dob so we could utilize the "heirloom" mirror. Kudos to Ed & Ed!!

You are the part of an astronomy family dynasty like the Herschels, Frank. Very interesting story.

Hope you had a great Christmas.
