NGC7635 80mm with Atik

Unread post by bluemax »

Wednesday night was nice so I tried NGC7635 with the 80mm refractor and Atik camera guided with 33X5 minutes. Basic Images Plus and a little PS. Still needs more subs so will try for more tonight.

Very nice image of the bubble Nebula. You can really make out the bubble. Your guiding looks good to, nice round stars.

Which Atik camera are you using

Very nice job here, frank. Looks like you got right back on the bike with no problem.

Thanks Roger, Tom, Bruce! The camera is an Atik 428EX One Shot Color on a Stellarve 80MM APO on a lowly Celestron AVX mount. Some people say these inexpensive ($800?) Chinese mounts are lousy but I have had good luck with this one. That is a part of M52 in the lower left which I chose to place there. The 480mm refractor FOV would not allow both in the frame though, when I use a .8 flattener/reducer I can get them both.
Tried again last night for more subs to add to the image above but clouds came in after only an hour of integrating. I had set SGP for 4 hours of subs (8pm to midnight) and went to bed. Got up at 12 to shut it all down and found only 12x5 subs were taken after which SGP said "lost guide star"
SGP is really great and allows you to set it all up and go to bed!

OK, finally got another version of NGC7635 (one of my favorite targets) taken mid-week with SGP, plate solving, PHD, and meridian flip all working. The image represents 7 and 3/4 hours data from 2 minute exposures on the 80MM Stellarvue (sorry Bruce, had to name the unmentionable) no reducer, 480mm FL with Atik 428EX. Processed with Images Plus (thank you Roger for some tips on this) and a little PS.
SGP is great! Set it all up and go to bed. No more staying up all night fiddling with software and stuff.

Frank

That is a really stunning image of the Bubble Nebula. Very impressive. Your tracking looks to be really good, nice round stars across the field. The extra hours of exposure really did this object justice.

Sounds like you mastered platesolving and meridian flips --- well done.

I know I would be happy with this image. Looking forward to more images from you.
