Spiral Galaxy M100
Spiral Galaxy M100
Image taken over two nights. First night was 48 x 5-minute exposures in Luminance. Second night I collected color info with 12 x 5-minute exposures with red, green, and blue filters. LOTS of time was put into processing using DeepSky Stacker and Photoshop.
Celestron 11" SCT @ 2800mm focal length, SBIG STT-8300 CCD camera
As long as I have camera(s) and telescope, I think I could do this home confinement thing for a long time.

Re: Spiral Galaxy M100
Very nice Steve,
Of course Steve is a bit modest with his images and failed to mention that he actually imaged a Quasar, a PGC,IC and an MGC along with a few NGCs.

Wow..that image really blows me away. Well done. The details and colors in the spiral arms are impressive.

Re: Spiral Galaxy M100
Thank you for the kind remarks!!
Paul, I appreciate you taking the time to label some of the background galaxies. I can see, however, a few more galaxies lurking that did not make the label-worthy cut. I did not know there was a quasar in the field. I see you identified one, but I can't detect it with my peepers. I have attached the more-sensitive luminance image (4 hours total exposure) and I still cannot make out the quasar.

Going "really deep" is one of the bonuses associated with the long exposure times needed to clean up this kind of image. This one's a keeper, eh?
