Apollo 11 landing site non-image

Unread post by Pete »

Luna – Since it’s the 50th anniversary of the 1st lunar landing and I happened to be out and imaging anyway, took a look at luna and attempted to capture few token frames with a setup that's decidedly inappropriate.

Image

11 X 0.1 seconds with the ST-8 at -15C, 14” at f/6.27. This is the camera's fastest shutter speed and with the high sensitivity expectations were low. Fits images stacked with Registax 6. FOV is 21' X 15'.

The Apollo 11 moon landing was One of man's greatest achievements.Millions of us watched on television this historic event. Not many of us knew what was happening would put the names of Armstrong,Aldrin and Collins were put in the history books along with Columbus,Cook,Lewis and Clark and many others. There were many people who contributed behind the scenes. When Armstrong uttered his historic words it was for all mankind in spite of all our indifferences.

For lunar imaging the 1/10 second exposures are very slow. While RegiStax (with it's magic sharpening capability) plays a big part, I must have lucked onto one of those periods of perfect seeing that sometimes happen on a summer night. Serendipity.
