Re: NGC 6888 - the Crescent Nebula

Pete

Nice job capturing the Crescent Nebula.

The 102mm refractor gives you really nice fairly wide field of view, so you can capture a lot of the nebula and the surrounding area.

Processing the nebula is difficult since it is surrounded by nebulosity.

I would be happy with your image !!

Sharpless 115 (Sh2-115) Emission Nebula

My last imaging session (M2) was an easy one. Last night I tried a very challenging target. The emission nebula Sh2-115. It is well placed in Cygnus for long duration imaging. I started imaging at about 8:15PM and concluded around 3:10AM. I took 77 images of 5 minutes (binned 1x1 temp -10C, gain 100...

Thanks ....

I really enjoy globular clusters.

Re: M2 Globular Cluster reimaged

Pete

Thanks.... I do use a focal reducer so my actual FL is about 1960... way less than your 14 inch. I also do run a sharpening and star size reduction tool in Pixinsight which helps a little.

Someday I will start imaging the 11 inch SCT without the focal reducer and see what I get.

M2 Globular Cluster reimaged

M2 is a fantastic globular cluster. Since it is situated in Aquarius, it is fairly low in the night sky, at least for me. I have trees to the South of my observatory that impact how low I can observe/image A couple of years ago I imaged M2 with my 5 inch refractor. I decided to give it another try w...

Re: Canon 450D NGC7000 Ha

Frank I know the entire area has some red nebulosity, so it is difficult to process. You are doing a great job. In order to get the stars back to their natural color, without impacting the nebula, I would recommend a process to remove the stars from the nebula. That way you can work on the stars i.e...

Re: NGC 6946 - The Fireworks Galaxy

Pete Great job of capturing the Fireworks galaxy. Stars are really pin-point. I really like your image. Framing the galaxy the the open cluster (I believe it is NGC 6939) really adds to the depth of the image. I don't understand why you had to throw out images with satellite trails. The stacking pro...

Sharpless 101 (Sh2-101) Emission Nebula

Interesting night last night. I decided to try and image the faint nebula Sh2-101. It is in Cygnus so it is well positioned to allow long exposures. I have been 'battling' with observatory computer occasionally 'hanging-up' forcing a shutdown and restart. I did some on-line searches and found severa...

Re: UMass-D Imaging First Light

Mark

Great news ....

The Ring Nebula looks really good at 4000mm .... stars are crisper than I would expect for an unguided image with F/L of 4000.

Great progress

Re: M56 Globular Cluster

Thanks for all of your responses.... and really good questions. First of all, I agree with Pete that usually globular clusters 'only' require a couple of hours of integration time. I imaged M56 2 years ago and had 100 two minute subs. I was not entirely satisfied with the result. Or rather, I though...
