Re: IC 1795 Fish Head Nebula

Thanks for your comment.

Interesting which one you prefer. I went on-line and found a wide variety of images. Many of the on-line images are mostly red (like the SPCC version). Of course those who do narrowband show a lot more colors.

IC 1795 Fish Head Nebula

The gremlin is back... I thought that I solved my problems with my observatory computer locking up during imaging. Alas, it is not so. Two nights ago I decided to image a large but faint nebula in Cassiopeia (IC 1795). I started at about 7:30PM and planned on imaging most of the night. The Moon woul...

Re: M73 Open Cluster or asterism??

Mike Charles Messier was a comet hunter. He took detailed notes of his observations and recorded those 'non-stellar' objects for his own benefit -- so that he would not waste his time with subsequent observations. He actually thought of those non-comet objects as annoyances since they interfered wit...

NGC 7741 Barred Spiral Galaxy -updated

The past couple of nights I imaged what I consider easy targets i.e. star clusters. I use Startools to help me determine which objects to observe/image. I then utilize ASTAP (called from SGP) to actually get an idea of what the object looks like. NGC 7741 really intrigued me with its shape. Last nig...

Tom

Thanks

I was happy with how this globular cluster came out. It is also good when you can see ifdividual stars.

I agree. I do the same when I teach astronomy at 2nd Half Learning. It is important to understand what it is you are looking at.

M73 Open Cluster or asterism??

In 1780 Charles Messier while comet hunting found this object which he described as a cluster of 4 stars with some nebulosity. Later observations could not find the nebulosity. It should be remembered that the telescopes that Messier used in 1780 were quite a bit inferior to even small modern day te...

Messier 72 (M72) NGC 6981 Globular cluster

Aquarius is just above my trees at this point in the year. I only have a few weeks to observe or image anything in Aquarius. While I have observed M72 several times, I have never gotten around to imaging it.... so last night I gave it a try. I started imaging around 7:45PM (although the sky was to b...

Outstanding image of Caroline's Rose. This is one of my favorite open clusters, and you captured it perfectly.

Stars are really pin-point and colors really show off this open cluster.

There are very few open clusters that have that 'wow' factor -- this is one of them
