Re: New pier concept

Heck Tom it would almost support me! A brilliant little idea, one of my concerns building an observatory is mis calculating the height of the pier relative the walls. But I find it hard to justify the cost, I'd be tempted to buy a couple bags of cement, a sonotube and slice it into 4 or 6 inch secti...

Pete I'd say you've made a quantum leap forward, that looks like a darn fine image to me!

Re: focusing mask

Pete- that's another interesting variant! Tom- yes that might be perfect for a smaller aperture camera lens, unfortunately the only info I have for the window screen mask is the youtube link but it seems pretty simple. Not sure if I'd try the metal screening or the plastic first but I'm very interes...

focusing mask

As I slowly wend my way towards semi-serious imaging, focus is a concern as it is probably the root of planetary imaging failures I've had in the past. Has anyone tried an oleshko 2 frequency mask? Nice Roger, you are making good use of every moment of clear sky! I planned to go out last night but passed when I saw clouds on the horizon around 7 PM.

Re: Climbing higher on the learning curve

Mark I had my camera (same as Pete's) back-ordered at OPT for almost 3 months and I finally cancelled, they did return my $$ promptly. I'm going to try ordering directly from ZWO if I can-

Re: Climbing higher on the learning curve

Pete i really like the "galaxy zoo" shot. The vastness of the solar system or even our own galaxy are not sufficient to diminish my sense of self importance, i really need a good galaxy cluster to make me feel like the insignificant speck that I am. Thanks! LOL

Re: Messier's #1 - The Crab Nebula

Great image Steve, an often overlooked object. We've had a few M1 images here but I'm always surprised it isn't a more popular target. Well done!
