Maybe you have to find it without the filter then insert it into the scope.
And then you'd have to refocus something you can't see without the filter. ENHHHH!

Re: H-Alpha filters for color CCD camera

Interesting research, Roger. I'll be very interested in your outcomes along with Frank. I just bit the bullet and ordered one of these: https://agenaastro.com/optolong-2-l-enhance-dual-bandpass-light-pollution-reduction-filter.html I have been extremely limited with my use of the Nikon D5300 because...

Re: H-Alpha filters for color CCD camera

Glad to be of service whenever I can, Chuck. And I have mentioned this before- you can now download Images Plus for free. It's an amazing program, and it kills me that I spent so much money on it over the years in upgrades. If you haven't done it already. Download it!

Re: H-Alpha filters for color CCD camera

Just to be clear about your statement, Chuck. You would process each stack of subs separately as you would normally, with the associative darks & flats to each set. You would then merge the 2 finished images together. @ Frank- You can drop in a 1/25" Ha filter to the front end of your ccd camera and...

Beautiful image, Frank. Great to see you are back out there. This is really impressive, as is SGP. Looking forward to you putting out more images.

Re: IC 59 and IC 63

@ Pete, and I was out trying to image Mars. Please pity me. Roger, you scored a real winner here. Can't imagine what you'd be able to produce under legitimately dark skies. Glad to read the success you had with the various machinations required to produce such a beautiful image. Sounds daunting! Tom
