ISS Transits Sol

Unread post by Bruce D »

This happens locally a few times a year, this time it will be easier for most of us to view because it happens on a Saturday.
On July 16 at 11:20 AM the international Space Station is predicted to cross the disk of the sun on a ground track that passes very close to my house.

A fair amount of detail can be seen on the space station when viewed through a telescope either visually (it happens fast, the transit will last a bit less than 2 seconds) or to photograph (video may be your best bet), and we know exactly where the ISS will be- A PROPER SOLAR FILTER IS NEEDED TO PROTECT THE SCOPE and camera- OH, AND ALSO TO KEEP YOUR EYEBALL FROM EXPLODING. Obligatory warning given, I will likely plan to view/image the event either from my yard or a site nearby and if you would like to come by let me know.
