This is a one opposition object tracked for just 3 days back in October 2013. And then it was lost. It is probably an Apollo class object and may be just 56 meters (185') in size. Right now it's probably 28 magnitude, and with an uncertainty level of 7 there's a good chance that no one will be able to locate it. I've stumbled upon a couple of these "lost asteroids".

Popular Mechanics is to people with a technical background what The National Enquirer is to someone looking for real news. I distinctly seeing a PM article touting a motor that defeated the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. In this case they're pulling up something like a 6-sigma probability and headlining it.
