Earth and Moon...Did you see this???!!!!!

Postby NGC7000 » Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:00 am

This is just jaw dropping. I can't believe news like this is not plastered all over the media for weeks on end. I am so thrilled to be living in a time when I can actually see through the camera's eye from 30 million miles away our own home in the universe!

Enjoy! :D :D :D

Tom, I had seen several stills, but this is amazing! Even Maureen was impressed, and she is kind of 'overexposed' on this stuff. :D

We do live in the golden era of space and cosmic discovery, and I personally can't get enough of it. Thanks for posting this, Tom!

Sorry, Tom. If I had realized that it would be so appreciated, I would have posted this a few weeks ago.

I am a news junkie and subscribe to several news RSS feeds and especially science and astronomy RSS feeds as well as Astronomy, S&T RSS feeds, Nasa RSS feeds, CNN RSS, etc. So, in actuality, while this video made earlier this year by the Deep Impact probe now renamed EPOXI has been all over the web media for several weeks, it is just that the public--including mainstream media (TV & Newspapers) are underwhelmed by what our "niche hobby" finds amazing!

Not only that, but the video is so darned good, I can see a mainstream producer or assignment editor saying "oh, that's a fake and it looks like it."

Your welcome, Bob. My wife was pretty taken with this as well. It would be interesting to hear what Sen Barney Frank would have to say about it, as he has been an integral force in getting NASA funding slashed. Perhaps this would change his mind.

Anything you can do about that, George?

Gee, Tom. Once I could get his ear, when I lived in DC. I Haven't seen Congressman Frank in 30 years. I doubt he'd remember me. :D Ask me about it sometime... 8)

As for my post, I wasn't going for one-upsmanship   and I worried that it might be taken that way--even with a smile or wink. Sorry, unintentional, but understandable.  I had thought that video had been more widely viewed on the web and had been rejected for "over-realism."

I still think it's really cool.

George..My old phone number must have been close to Franks office number.I got so tired of taking his messages on a daily basis that i started calling people back.I still wonder how many people actually kept the apointments we made for them.

I wish it were a joke.It lasted for over a year.I called his office to let them know of the problem when it first started. After the second and third call about the problem with no results i just started to call the people back.I know it wasnt his office's fault but at the same time to be getting that many calls seamed more than a fluke. We would get atleast two calls a day for him.And the personal info some people would leave on the answering machine was unbelievable some times.I.D. thiefs would love to have gotten there hands on some of it...I finally gave up and had oure number changed. The only problem with that was that some H.School kid gave the school our number as a contact number. So we would get the voice recording."This is the head master at the tan house youre son missed his 28th day of school today".The number of calls we got for this kid was amazing. But we kept getting the recorded voice. You would think that with all the missed days the school would send home a letter. It may have helped if I had called the school and told them they had the wrong number for John Smith.

Tom, very impressive. I have to say the one picture that I saw maybe a year or so ago that really tugged at my sense of awe was the one that Voyager took when it looked back at earth from the edge of the solar system. Just one small blue dot in a vast blackness of space.
