Postby Paul D » Fri Feb 08, 2008 8:38 pm

Its very unlikely with the weather trend the way its been that we will have any shot at this. But I figured I would post it as a read since its a rare event. http://www.skyandtelescope.com/resource ... 42631.html

That's very cool, Paul. Isn't it amazing to think that the error cone for this event is larger than the earth? We tend to think that we have everything nailed down so well nowadays that we can predict things to milliseconds and milliarc-seconds. I think it is really neat that a backyard astronomer with a personal telescope could really help to determine the size of Varuna and help to refine its orbit if lucky enough to see and time this event.

But, as Paul says, we'll be socked in anyways... :?
