Yes, amazing. The difference between then and now is almost as amazing. Technology has made it possible today for so many more to achieve a high level, whereas back then it was much more difficult - like walking to school uphill both ways in snow with bare feet difficult. :P

The irony in your statement, Mike, is that such a high proportion of the current population do not take advantage of the opportunities available to them. Those pictures serve as a hard reminder of how much the mindset has changed.
I was watching a documentary on the creation of the CCC during the Great Depression and it occurred to me that the people in these pix are the product of those times. I think it would be impossible to put a CCC together today if for no other reason than the national prevalence of drug use.

Thank you so much, Bruce for posting them. They are stunning and they remind me of my parents. What a great collection!

Bruce, the quality of the photographs really is unbelievable. They look like they were taken with a digital camera!

Beautiful pictures. Just remember folks these pictures were taken with large format 4"x5" camera. A 4"x5" inch piece of film with the right resolution (lens) would blow away most modern digital SLRs (full frame) on the market today. I still own two medium format camera's (two 503c Hasselblads's) that shot 6cm x 6cm 120/220 film and they still beat most non-high-end professional digital cameras on the market. Sad thing is, most people will never get to experience what film is and can do with the right camera.

Forgot to mention, I think the ISO rating on this type of Kodachrome was either 8 or 10!

I think I am one of the very few in the age group of 30 somethings to have experience what Kodachrome could do as a film. I took out some of my old negatives from the late 1990's early 2000's of the Boston Public Garden and New York City that I took through one of my vintage Zeiss Planar Rollie TLR cameras. Gosh, I miss Kodachrome, what an amazing film! Guess I have to stick with Fuji Provia....

Fantastic set of pictures! I had mixed feelings as I looked at these. Saddened(for man reasons) and amazed at the same time.

Bill, we think alike. I had that damn song in my head the whole time I looked at these pictures.
