How's my Math? Or Better, How's their's?

Postby NGC7000 » Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:08 pm

I got an email this morning advertising huge savings..Spend more save more. They must be right. I know I can't be right.
Could you check my math against this ad?

It seems to me that the first one , $10 off 75, gives a 13% discount.
The second one (spend more) gives a discount of 12% and the third does give a hefty discount of 14%.

So, is my math wrong? Are they pulling a fast one? Or is it just another nail in the coffin of the American aptitude for math?

I ask you.

You aren't supposed to look that close at ads, Tom. They depend on you seeing only the line that says that the promotion ends on Monday. That way you'll be too anxious to do the math.

When we visited Hong Kong, there were incredible bargains on clothes, furniture, and housewares, and we only had four days to take advantage of our visit, so we had to hurry. I coined the phrase that my wife was 'bankrupting us while saving us a fortune.' She always believed that we could spend our way to prospertiy. The government must have overheard her comments at some time or other. 8)
