Last Call - Orion and Taurus

Unread post by BobSikes »

With both constellations sinking into the west at sunset, this is you last chance to observe the annual binocular and small telescope favorites:

  • M42 – the Orion Nebula
Theta 1 and 2 Orion – double star (Theta 1 is the Trapezium)
Delta Orion - Mintaka – another very nice double star
Alpha Orion – Betelgeuse – it’s big (as large as Mars’ orbit), red and variable (from 0.4 to 1.3 mag with a cycle of about 2110 days.
    M45 – the Pleiades
    M1 – the Crab Nebula

But with a week of clear skies predicted for mid April, there’s still time to log a few before they sink into the horizon and enter the daytime sky.
