Seeing that the middle star of the handle of the big dipper was a double star instead of a single star is an ancient eye test. And for those of us with aging eyes, a bit of a shock when your kids see this easily while you struggle. Family fun, for the kids. With a telescope you’ll find that one of these optical double stars is also a visual double. It’s up to you to decide which.



Mizar/Alcor Challenge (Eyeball, binocular and telescope – difficulty depends on eyeball condition) May 2008 – See what it takes to resolve Mizar and Alcor.
