Galaxy NGC 4725, one-armed spiral
Galaxy NGC 4725, one-armed spiral
Captured back in April-May 2016, here is one-armed spiral galaxy NGC 4725 in Coma Berenices. The smaller (more distant) galaxy to the right is NGC 4712.

That's so super impressive Andy. Achieving pinpoint stars with short focal length refractors is much more common than your work with such a relatively long focal length. Love to pick through these images and see traces of dim galaxies.

Andy,
Impressive indeed for 41 million light-years away! Com certainly is littered with Galaxies.
For those who own a copy of Deep Sky Wonders by Sue French, take a look at page 126 in the upper right-hand corner. I think Andy's image far exceeds the quality there.

This is really cool, Andy. One arm swinging round and round. You've capture beautiful colors and detail. And I wonder if that 'tuft of nebulosity' just below the main galaxy is a satellite galaxy of NGC 4725 or if it is just a distant background galaxy. Keep 'em coming. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

This image feels really alive, Andy. It's got a lot of movement in the swirls and looks like 4725 has cast it's young from the nest. Beautiful composition!

Thanks for looking and for the comments!
I did some poking around in Aladin and it appears to be a satellite galaxy, SDSS J125033.75+252432.7, at a distance of 57.78 million ly from earth; NGC 4742 is 55.4 million ly distant.AstroGeek wrote:And I wonder if that 'tuft of nebulosity' just below the main galaxy is a satellite galaxy of NGC 4725 or if it is just a distant background galaxy.
