NGC 1893 / IC 410 / SH2-236 / LBN 807 w/SIM 129/130

Unread post by rjbokleman »

NGC 1893 is tucked in the thick of the Milky Way and within a clearing in the nebula IC 410. Deep images bring out exquisite nebula structure punctuated by dark nebula and shoals of dust and gas. Revealed are two dramatic tadpole-like streamers of cool gas near the cluster, cataloged as SIM 129 and 130. Each tadpole is approximately 10 light years in length.

NOTE: First image with the AT130EDT riding on top of the iEQ45 Pro w/the SV60EDS as a guide scope. Ha only. 3.5 hours as a test of the new scope.

Nice, Ron! Love that big cloud of hydrogen. And I agree, so little coma that a field flattener doesn't seem necessary.

Mike,

Well it's not nearly as good as my SW100ED, which is really too bad. I was fearful of this after viewing several images produced by others who got the AT130EDT earlier on. I couldn't tell whether it was bad enough to worry about or whether the imagers weren't doing a good job guiding or processing. Whenever a new scope comes out there's an all fired rush to get images done and sometimes folks rush it to be the 'first' and the results are dubious at best.

The big challenge is containing CA while trying to provide a flat field at f7. I've been told that it was much easier to do at f9, hence the reason the SW100ED was an f9 scope. The upside is the aperture, making it easier to get to the finer details.

I'm now wondering if an ES127ED Triplet would have been a bit better in the corners. :?:

Once I get some good LRGB data on this target, I should be able to see how things actually play out. There is no perfect scope as the saying goes. :|

Thanks everyone, glad you found this object interesting.

I did manage to get some LRGB and spent the last two days fiddling with this. I still have some issues here, but at some point you just have to stop or you'll drive yourself crazy. I learned even more about PI trying to process this one.

Very cool. BTW since I see a number of people using it, maybe one (or more) imagers would be interested in giving a talk/demo of Astrobin at an upcoming meeting?

Rebekah
Rebekah,

I think we could come up with something short. Perhaps 15 minutes long that covers the basics?
