Say It Isn't So...

Unread post by Apollo XX »

Here we go again. The media has hyped up the supermoon spectacle, and personally I have no Issues with it. I made the trip over to Scituate Harbor this past Sunday evening under perfect sky conditions and joined the literally hundreds (if not more) of people to take in the spectacle of the full beaver moon rising over the Atlantic. I brought a scope and a camera and positioned myself nearly a mile from the breakwater that protects the harbor and captured the event in all it's exaggerated glory. I think the best part of the image is the people, and I really like that it captured some trying to photograph it as well.

Equipment; Nikon D5000 DSLR, Stellarvue SV80ED, AstroTech Voyager Alt/Az mount, ISO400, 1/60 and 1/250 sec.

Fantastic photo! That one needs to be published in the newspaper or magazines!

Great to see so many people interested in the moon too.

Thanks Andy! That is just a tiny sampling of the number of people that went over there to see it. The entire harbor had groups huddled in every open space around it to see the moon come up. I stayed for about two hours with a scope and shared the moon with anyone who cared to look. Really everyone was quite jovial about the whole scene, and of course the unseasonably warm weather for November didn't hurt.

@ Apollo and AstroGeek:

I agree, the media hype these days is so over the top it's pathetic. Still, I love your posts.

Hey Mike!

It's Friday afternoon, and as I look at my screen saver (which now is adorned by your Supermoon image) , I realized I
forgot to congratulate you on making the effort.

Super Moon for sure!!
