Sun w/ New Camera

Unread post by Apollo XX »

Wow, Bill, that is one serious workaround. I wouldn't have been able to get there. Didn't know the possibility existed.

Hope you don't mind me messing with your data for the fun of it. If you do, just tell me to get off your cloud.

Ok, I just went and looked at the Amazon Web Services to learn more about what you used. Although I get the general gist of it, some of the terminology and application potential is lost on me. I could use a workshop.

Both Amazon and Microsoft compete in the market place to host various components. Instead of customers building Data Centers as physical locations - which cost tons of Capital investment think of these two offerings as 'Virtual Data Centers' you can access anywhere.

What Bill did is spin up a virtual machine to duplicate his laptop and use the compute, memory and storage available attached to that virtual machine to execute his image processing.

AWS and Azure are the names of the competing offerings from these two giants. In my case I have a pair of high end physical machines at home that I use (12 CPU's, 64GB of RAM, 10TB of disk space), but you could use AWS or Azure as well.

Thank you Ron for breaking it down into something we can understand. It's just so confusing and as I said until I get some exposure to the variety of equipment and programs, I have to ask for a "translation. :P :P

Bill, I find this fascinating. I bet the slowest part was compressing an uploading. Do you recall how long those parts took? And how big was the file that you uploaded?
