M13 / NGC 6905, C8 EdgeHD, ASI1600MCC

Unread post by rjbokleman »

I think a few folks will remember I started this AP journey a little over a year ago. One of my first targets was M13 due to it's brightness and size. The original was @ 900mm of FL using PHD 2 and a guide scope for the first time.

Image

Here's an updated version of the same target, but this time with my new C8 EdgeHD, .7x Focal Reducer (1422mm), 2" IDAS Filter, Celestron OAG, and the ASI1600MCC cooled to -10C. This one has a full set of 100 Bias, 40 Darks, 100 Flats and 45 x 240 second frames used out of 60.

Image

I blew out HD150998 and HD150679 just a bit. The first round of M13 test images was done at 300 seconds and both of these were really overcooked. I reduced down to 240 seconds hoping for the best, but probably could have reduced the exposure time even slightly more.

Enjoy!!

Wow! That's exactly how it looks in my 50mm refractor on a new moon night!

Well OK, maybe there's a few less stars than that. And I don't usually see that galaxy either. :P

Really nice, Ron. 8)

Wonderful image Ron! Great job on the processing--I especially like the star colors, the pinpoint stars and the smooth background. Congrats!

Beautiful Ron, I'd be thrilled to have captured the image you got a year ago, and you've really improved on that you are mastering the craft in leaps and bounds!

I'm glad you enjoyed the view and appreciate the encouragement/feedback. :P

I got some feedback from some other folks and worked a bit harder to bring out the center stars. Here's the revision posted this morning.

Great job Ron. I really like the enhanced star colors versus your shot with the DSLR. Your dedication in AP is really showing. Thanks for sharing your images.
