M81 & M82 & some dust

Unread post by AndyG »

Another image from the remote observatory, galaxies M81 and M82. The dark skies of the remote site allowed capturing some of the obscuring dust in front of the galaxies. The dust, referred to as IFN or Integrated Flux Nebula, is actually much closer to us than the galaxies and is illuminated by the glow of our own Milky Way galaxy.

My goodness, the colors are incredible! And the IFN at that image scale? That really is a good sky!

Andy, It's up to you but I suggest this image be the cover shot for your new coffee table book and could also be on either page 81 or 82. As before, I am hoping to get a club discount when it comes out.

Andy,

Just a spectacular image, again, as usual. I am still eagerly awaiting delivery of my AP 1100-GTO, then I hope to be back imaging again. It would have been nice to chat with you at the meeting last night, but my friend and I had to hit the road for a Led Zeppelin cover band. Keep shooting those images!!

Aside from the otherworldly images from the Hubble, I have to say I have never seen an image of the famous pair quite like this.

You are the Claude Monet of the Night Sky. Just unbelievabley beautiful!
