NGC 457 / Caldwell 13 / Owl Cluster

Unread post by rjbokleman »

NGC 457 (also known as the Owl Cluster, the ET Cluster, or Caldwell 13) is an open star cluster in the constellation Cassiopeia.

I shot this twice over the winter and used exposures of 150 seconds @ ISO400 and also 120 seconds @ ISO400. Each set was over 2 hours. In the end after processing both I decided the 120 second exposures were the better ones.

I've been working on M51, but the weather hasn't been cooperating very much...in fact the last really good night I've had was on 3/11. Tried imaging several nights after that and the Star count values as well as the FWHM/HFR from SGP were so poor, I just packed it in. Looks like things aren't improving either at least for another week or more.

Always been one of my favorite clusters in Cass. Great job.

Beautiful image Ron.
I'm glad you were able to find the imaging time with the lousy astronomy weather we've been having.
