First light image from New Mexico

Unread post by AndyG »

Testing the gear last week I managed to collect enough subs for an image. This is from 3.5 hours exposure, not my usual 20-30 hours! I also usually spend days on processing the data, but I spent less than an hour processing this one! I did no noise reduction, no gradient removal, no deconvolution. Just stacking, color calibration, histogram stretch and HDRMT. Next new moon I'll collect some shorter duration subs to cover the over-saturated trapezium region. I'm really thrilled about the new setup and can't wait to do more imaging :P

Awe c'mon Andy, this is from the Keck library, fess up!

That is beautiful, I think I'm going to have to get a thesaurus to find more superlatives to heap upon the images you'll be posting

If I've learned anything in the last 12 months its that dark skies are really a treat when it comes to processing. Kudos on the new setup and the 'treats' yet to come.

Here's an updated image. I gathered some short 30 second exposures (remotely!) for the over-saturated core region and re-processed the data with Pixinsight's HDR tool.

Andy, you need to go back to New Mexico and check your lenses for fogging and water staining.
