First light image from New Mexico
First light image from New Mexico
Testing the gear last week I managed to collect enough subs for an image. This is from 3.5 hours exposure, not my usual 20-30 hours! I also usually spend days on processing the data, but I spent less than an hour processing this one! I did no noise reduction, no gradient removal, no deconvolution. Just stacking, color calibration, histogram stretch and HDRMT. Next new moon I'll collect some shorter duration subs to cover the over-saturated trapezium region. I'm really thrilled about the new setup and can't wait to do more imaging

Awe c'mon Andy, this is from the Keck library, fess up!
That is beautiful, I think I'm going to have to get a thesaurus to find more superlatives to heap upon the images you'll be posting

If I've learned anything in the last 12 months its that dark skies are really a treat when it comes to processing. Kudos on the new setup and the 'treats' yet to come.

Re: First light image from New Mexico
Here's an updated image. I gathered some short 30 second exposures (remotely!) for the over-saturated core region and re-processed the data with Pixinsight's HDR tool.

Andy, you need to go back to New Mexico and check your lenses for fogging and water staining.
