M57 / NGC 6720 - Ring Nebula

Unread post by rjbokleman »

In a Lyra, far, far away...and if you look really hard you'll find it.

This target is very small, but I wanted to give it a try just the same. M57 is only 1.5 by 1 arc minutes. By way of comparison M27 (posted earlier) is 8 by 5.6 arc minutes (same scope) and Andy's beautiful NGC 7331, I believe is ~11 by ~4 arc minutes.

I'm learning that getting the detail and color is a rather complex equation. There are many, many variables including the target size, target brightness, scope type, scope focal length, camera, seeing, hours of integration and many more. The challenge...continues. :P

Nice Ron. Reminds me a bit of the view through an eyepiece, but with more color.
