M31 / Andromeda Galaxy

Unread post by rjbokleman »

Shot from Stellafane on a truly amazing (and only) night of good seeing.

This one is a bit unusual as I was using a scope of 900mm with a focal reducer of .85x bringing it down to 765mm. A scope of 330-600mm probably would get the entire galaxy in view, however, this one is a little more like "peering into the galaxy" slightly as a result.

M110 and M32 are included in the framing. 2.4 hours of good frames -- though nearly 3 hours were taken and I managed to get my first 5 minute frames with the AVX/PHD combination.

Enjoy!

Very nice image Ron, thanks for sharing. After some weeks now, I was able to get out locally this past Friday and can attest to the great seeing conditions. I was awestruck at what I was seeing through the eyepiece. Nights like that are what it's all about. Clear skies.

Glad you enjoyed this one...like a good work of art the job is never done. I got some good feedback from folks on Cloudy Nights about the 'Green' haze. I worked on it further tonight based upon that feedback. Should look a bit nicer now.

Looks great Ron! Whatever the tweak was that brought out the contrast really worked!
