M11 / NGC 6705, “Wild Duck” Cluster

Unread post by rjbokleman »

Rather a weak first try on this one. Ran into issues last night getting a smooth PHD guiding session. Ended up starting over again late in the evening and thus only had time for 30 minutes of exposure. Will try again as soon as the sky clear up again. 30 minutes just isn't near enough for this open cluster.

Very nice Ron. Surely no guiding issues there, stars are perfectly round!

Yep. I'd forgotten to do an All-Star Polar Alignment in my rush to get going the first time around.

Started imaging and then noticed quickly that the PHD graph wasn't looking very good. Had to pull the camera, swap back in the reticle EP, do the ASPA and swap everything back.

As you can see the the second time around PHD was looking pretty good, but by then M11 had gotten too far West for me to spend too much time on it before being blocked by the roof of my house.

Also need to investigate using PHD to fine tune the alignment as well...lots still to learn and remember!
