M27 2015

Unread post by AndyG »

Here's another shot at the Dumbbell Nebula, M27. I think I was able to get a bit sharper detail than my prior attempt, though with the local light pollution I still can only barely get the faint outer wisps of nebulosity. When I asked my kids, they said they like the older version better because of the colors. Oh well...

Another beauty Andy!

I did hear something about a big forest fire in Canada, plus there's been a lot of humidity in the air that tends to reflect back more light pollution than dry nights- one reason winter nights are usually darker, cold air holds less moisture-

Andy,

Once again an incredible image. Great detail and wonderful colors to the stars.

I think I like the second one better, Andy. Had to go back and forth between them several times to make up my mind. One question though: How can one tell whether we've got the true color of gases correct?

Looking at a few other images of M27 they seem to vary widely. For example:

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Tom, will you be imaging at Stellafane this weekend? It would be great to hang out again if you are going. The serene and ethereal music you brought last year was very calming and peaceful. I understand that in past years the sounds emanating from the vicinity of your imaging gear were more colorful.
