Back in Black

Unread post by AstroGeek »

Last Saturday night, after a couple of very inspiring naked eye/binocular observing nights in Maine, I settled into my dome to shoot a picture. B143 is a dark nebula located quite close to Altair in our summer sky. This is a very busy starlit area in the direction of our galaxy's center. But a vandal in the night has spraypainted the letter "C" over the stellar backdrop. Some suggest it was the Cookie Monster. This image was taken with a 5" refractor and an SBIG CCD camera with color filters. Total exposure time was about two hours.

Thursday night is looking grand for another photo session. With a plate of cookies.

I'm glad you're back too, Steve. Great image!
Aren't you glad you didn't have to travel 9.5 years to capture it?
Just a thought. Sorry, got Pluto on my mind!

Great to see you posting images again. I like dark nebula as well and actually was finally able to spot a few of them visually last year at Stellafane in my 16" As always, top notch image Steve.

Steve,
I to, just got back from Maine and their skies are indeed inspiring. Your image is just as inspiring. Superb.
