This active region was responsible for wide-spread aurora across most of the continental US (not that we got to see it, but northern regions of the country enjoyed whole-sky displays). I had some time this morning so I got out the refractor/Herschel wedge setup. This group ranks right up there in attractive groups so far this year;

I heard on this morning's weather report that parts of Australlia had large displays of the aurora they said they had deep red and green for colors. I can't remember seeing any of these since I was a kid, a looooong time ago. Jerry

Never seen an Aurora myself, but I'm sure the Sun will provide one for us in MA sometime in the future.

Thanks guys. Today's APOD is a well done video using images from SDO that creates a time-lapse view of a recent active region as it crossed the face of the sun from our perspective; http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html
