Vega

Unread post by rjbokleman »

Decided to create an extremely light weight package for wide field AP, but also something that could support my SV60EDS for visual, or even maybe some AP.

The mount is a Gitzo [GT142T] Traveler tripod @ 2.2lbs. On top of that sits a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer also @ 2.2 lbs. Then, the Canon T5i with ball mount or the SV60EDS. Haven't yet tried the scope, but got things going tonight with the camera.

I fought the clouds last night and tonight, but finally managed to sneak in between them to nail Vega with a 90 second exposure, f3.5, @ ISO 200. I'm pleased with the nice sharp, round stars and managed to get some color here as well. Would have loved to have tried more, but alas the clouds moved in again too quickly.

I also shot a few of the Big Dipper, but alas the clouds ruined those, so we'll try that again another night. In the meantime let me know what you think! [I'm addicted to this AP stuff...just can't learn enough fast enough and having a blast!] Thanks for looking!

Pinpoint stars for sure! You're making me think about getting out the hinge tracker and pointing my camera at the sky too! http://www.garyseronik.com/?q=node/184

Yes. I was quite please for a 90 second exposure. Will have to try for 120 and then see how far it can be pushed. 5 minutes? Might bring it with me on our group trip...so many things to try now and so little time!

BTW, this was unguided too. The little mount has an auto guider port...which should push it even further if the tripod can handle the weight.

That's a really cool device Mike! I love reading Gary's stuff. I used his Binocular Highlights book for almost a year before I purchased my first scope.
