Pete, in the first image of the whole sun with disc and limb details, the black line is the outer circumference of the disc image that was laid over a slightly bloomed limb image. I probably should have scaled down the limb image a little but just didn't bother.

In the second image of just the prominence, the black line is from where I selected the very overexposed disc to pull it back into the ballpark. I've seen where some imagers will just darken the disc to highlight the proms as though there was an occulting disc used, and I like that look too. http://spaceweathergallery.com/indiv_up ... _id=112082
