Oh So Close

Unread post by Apollo XX »

The Moon, she was big, just two days out from full
The clouds, they was thick, like icebergs floating high
The time, it was late , the witching hour within reach
And as I ply my craft, camera pointed to the sky
A hole, it did appear
My eyes, they was aghast
There it was, so near
That Luna, she's a sneak
Must've thought, he's not lookin'
Think I'll go up, for a peek

Hi Jerry and Happy New Year to you too! As for the image, I was out one night this past November shooting some pictures of the clouds because they just looked cool with the moon lighting them up from behind. I actually took a lot of shots trying to catch them just so, with the moon covered as much as possible by a darker cloud and the frame of the image as full as possible with the big rock-like shapes that the clouds had. This was one of the better ones, and to improve the contrast in the cloud texture I applied a bump map filter. It just so happened that the area of clouds that were right in front of the moon took on the appearance of a smooth floored crater with two central peaks. What you're seeing is really just the clouds, I swear, but the effect of the filter makes it look like the moon is pushed right up against a hole in the clouds. I kinda like what it did, so there it is.
