Mike's Right

Unread post by DonB »

Yes, it was best through the eyepiece. I just got back from Maine where I can get some really dark skies. "Arthur" cleared out just in time for a few images. here's the one I took.

Image

Used the Explore Scientific 127 refractor at prime focus. A cannon DSLR at 1/40 of a second. Processed in Photoshop.
I'm learning !! 8) 8)

Fabulous image, Don. Mars is looking very planetary.
Wish I had a chance to see it in the eyepiece. Are you going to try for the Saturn-Moon conjunction tonight?

Yes I am going to try for the lunar/Saturn conjunction. But I drove over 6 hours today so I just try with the 300mm camera lens. I am not sure I could get both in the scope. Now August 18 with Jupiter and Venus will take some practice. :!: :!: :!:

Great image Don!

I'm out of the loop, I didn't know about these conjunctions. I have to start reading my Astronomy and S&T while they are fresh, not 5 months old

I heard about them from Astro Bob. Somebody in ASSNE, I forgot who, pointed that site out to me.

Didn't Astro Bob pass away recently? Maybe I'm thinking of Barlow Bob?

That's the reason I also stopped getting S&T, but I miss it so I'm starting it up again.

Another great resource: http://oneminuteastronomer.com/ You won't get deluged with e-mails, and he does a "sky this month" column at the beginning of each month. He publishes some interesting stuff. I've saved a bunch of his articles for future reference.

Andy,

I'm taking the blame for pointing out Astro-Bob to the Imager's Studio! He's a fellow news photographer and astro-photographer.
He's a nice guy and knows his stuff (as you may have found out already)!
Anyone who hasn't gone to his site would do well to do so!
