Some Astronomical Events...
Some Astronomical Events...
...are more exciting in the eyepiece, and this was one of them. The human eye has a remarkable capacity for dynamic range, and oh what a difference it makes in bright situations. With the moon at -11ish, and Mars at +.28, my eye had no problem seeing both perfectly clearly at the same time, and it was a handsome sight in a 1.75* field of view! That I was able to get both objects exposed in one frame without completely killing one or the other is simply attributable to the capacity of modern electronics. If you didn't get to personally witness the spectacle of the Moon/Mars conjunction tonight, I offer this image of the event:

Very cool, Mike. It is remarkable that you were able to get them both with the camera without over-exposing the moon or having Mars wash-out. On my monitor Mars shows up as a green dot, is that how it looks to you too?

Isn't that supposedly the color of Martians?AndyG wrote:On my monitor Mars shows up as a green dot

Last night's Mars/Luna conjunction was striking indeed. Especially when I unexpectedly encountered it thru the eyepiece of my finder scope at 30X. Tried for pix but the handheld thru the eyepiece didn't work all that well. Spacing was only about 20 arc-minutes.
