Sunday Sun Pillar & Sunset

Unread post by Apollo XX »

Last Sunday evening I ventured out to wind the day down with a little "sunset stack" imaging. I was presented with a half-interesting if not all out exciting sky, and proceeded to snap away. My initial intention was to shoot for 30 minutes, but my remote shutter release gave up the ghost after 26. Here's the results;

This first pic is a "short stack" of just 9 frames, because I liked the sun pillar that was present during that time:

This next image shows the full 78 frame stack in the wide field captured by the 12-24 lens set at 15mm:

The last image in this set is a crop version of the wide field image above, which I thinks adds drama to the scene - in a good way :P :

All exposures captured with a tripod mounted Nikon D5000, Sigma 12-24 Lens, aperture and shutter speed chosen by the camera.

Click on the image to go to the hosting site and see the full width of the frame.

I remember commenting on the pillar that day but I don't recall seeing the washboard clouds here... very nice combination!

Great images, Mike! I like the sun pillar, and the colors in the last two are beautiful.
