Far, farther, farther

Unread post by AndyG »

Here's an image I have been working on. I think the field is interesting because it has a objects at a range of distances:
  • The bright (mag 8.5) star HD 80566, about 1000 ly distant
  • Galaxy NGC 2841, about 46 million ly away
  • a more distant peculiar galaxy, PGC 26572, at the top right
  • a couple barely visible tiny galaxies: one, just to the left of 2841 behind a star (!), and another to the right, just below a star.

That is just gorgeous, Andy. Not only scientifically interesting, but an artistic achievement as well. Amazing how many targets are out there beyond the usual suspects.

Where did you find 13 hours of clear night sky in that period? Are you shooting through sucker holes?

WOW, Andy, that is remarkable. You should give a talk at one of the meetings as to how the ___ you do this. Just mind blowing.

Darn, Andy, that is just beautiful. That's a very pretty galaxy, and the other objects just serve to accentuate it. Thanks for sharing it with us.
