Thanks to Tom & Pete & Andy, got the bug and setup for imaging with the new Celestron VX mount to see how it performed. This is a step up from the CG5-GT and is very nice. The M97 image is the Owl Nebula and was taken with a Stellarvue 80mm F6 with Canon 450D DSLR about 40 minutes total exposure at 3 min subs, PHD guiding with a converted finder scope 50mm and the Orion guide camera ($225 last year at NEAF) some darks and Nebulosity 3 initial processing then PS2 stretching. Not bad for the light polluted backyard, the moon up and a slight haze.....love the VX

Re: Spring fever
Very nice, Frank!
From the look of those nice round stars, I'd say the new mount and new guide cam are working perfectly, you must be pleased.
Did you use flats? Your background is quite uniform with no sign of vignetting or even any of the LP gradients I often struggle with; the SV80 + Canon 450D seems to be a very good match.

Re: Spring fever
Thanks guys. I used a processing function within Nebulosity called normalization...this apparently matches uneven image intensities in case you have sky changes or, different exposure times. I only used darks no flats at all, and BTW, the 450D is modded and I used a deep sky anti light pollution filter. The image was just a test to see how everthing worked since I've been out of the game for a while. I am very happy with the mount!
