Latest ISON Map predicts success!??

Unread post by WCGucfa »

Hey Guys, I don't want to get too excited about this, but check out the map. It looks like ISON will be passing very close to Chi Leonis (4th mag.) near the
30th. If we haven't found it by then, this may be our night to shine!

I really believe we'll find and image ISON before then, but if not....well, ya just never know, doo ya!
I left the magnitude's in for a laugh!

I am on vacation that week so if I don't find it then I wont find it before it rounds the sun. I am skeptical of finding it but that wont make me stop looking for it.

Bill,

She's the Boss!!!

Here's my latest image of Linear!-- I know, I know. Well, they are likening it to Comet Holmes!
Well, I know Comet Holmes and you Mr. Linear, are no Comet Holmes. Yet, that is.
I can't stand my images gathering dust!

Here's another way to look at Comet Holmes; with the naked eye. This is Perseus rising. The brightest "star" in the image is the comet!
Mirfak is just above center, Algol is to the right, just over the tree. Holmes is left of center. 15 second exposure. Sony, ISO400.

Nice image Bill. Now hopefully it stays bright so I can get a view in a telescope over the weekend.

Hey Andy,

It was still pretty compact at the time of this image. In a couple of more weeks it would almost fill
the whole field (approx. 1 degree 46 minutes) It just kept expanding, while growing dimmer each night, but no less spectacular.
I remember posting its exact size here each night, but I don't think the files exist any longer.

This was a 30 second exposure with an Orion 120mm refractor @ 25x. We were all so mesmerized!!!
The first night I saw it in binoculars, it was a frightening thing; a big bright ball looking like it was headed right for us!
