NEAF 2010 - Who's going?

A place to ask a question about eyepieces or filters or to mention a new "toy" that others might be interested in. It's a section for general, astronomy-related topics including CCD imaging or binoviewers etc.

NEAF 2010 - Who's going?

Postby bruce d » Sun Jan 31, 2010 10:08 pm

On the weekend of April 17-18 the Rockland Astronomy Club will host the North East Astronomy Forum (NEAF) 2010 at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY. NEAF is one of the largest astronomy related trade and telescope shows http://www.rocklandastronomy.com/neaf.htm

There are imaging workshops, many vendors, speakers, and if the weather is clear there will usually be about a dozen solar scopes set up in the court yard. We've had an ASSNE contingent go every year, some go alone for the day, others carpool and stay for the weekend. Many vendors have special "Show Prices" which can mean "great deals"! If you are interested in astronomy and have never been to NEAF, you owe it to yourself to go at least once to see a huge gymnasium filled with every imaginable scope on the market, and accessories from red flashlights to observatory domes.

I have missed the last couple of years and plan on attending this year, anyone else planning to go?

Booth prices went up (as much as doubled) so I've cancelled participation in NEAF for 2009. Most vendors who come in from a distance don't make money. They visit simply to "show the flag". It'll be interesting to see how big a show they can put together.

I'd like to go this year, and I may get my friend, Sue Nord, to meet me there. Can I carpool with you Bruce? It would be fun. I was thinking of just going Saturday. You?

I'm not sure what my plans are, I just realized it's the week of school vacation and we are planning to go to DC- we might hit NEAF then continue south, or I may not get permission to go at all

No problem. Hope you can go. I may drive if I just go for Saturday, so if anyone wants to ride with me if I can get wheels for the day, let me know.

I'll be there. I'm going to NEAIC beforehand, and I'm not staying at the Holiday Inn this year (registered too late, and I swore last "never again"). I'll be staying down the road at the Fairfield Inn. I'm leaving about noon on Wednesday if someone wants to carpool.
